Lavish equipment is not a hallmark of British hi-fi engineering, and so the Arcam AVR850 AV receiver takes its place in that tradition. Even so, this high-quality powerhouse is fitted with a good deal of what one simply expects today. With its seven output stages it is fully home-cinema capable, and with further output stages it can even reproduce the new three-dimensional sound standards Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. A dual power supply is switched in automatically depending on the power demanded. Via an integrated Ethernet connection the receiver can also be controlled over the network, and by way of an iPhone app from a smartphone as well. Room correction technology from Dirac Research, calibrated automatically, provides the finishing touch to the first-class sound, and video distribution designed entirely for 4K is likewise part of the home cinema package.
