The market leader Webasto introduces a panorama roof with infrared absorption for roof systems and air conditioning systems, which is able to filter the infrared glare of the sun. This is made possible by a dye in the basis material Makrolon. Besides a well-illuminated interior, this has several advantages: The “skin burning effect”, the feeling that the sun burns the skin, is nearly completely eliminated. In addition, the interior heats up less, which reduces the use of the air conditioning and lowers the petrol consumption of the car. This is reinforces by the weight (which is 50 % lower compared to glass), and also improves the driving. In a Smart-panorama roof about ten kg less are stored in exposed positions.
