From the jury's assessment
With the Sigma 50-100 mm F1.8 DC HSM Art, the traditional Japanese manufacturer brings its second zoom lens of the Art series with a constant maximum aperture of 1.8 to market. As with the 18-35 F1.8 DC HSM Art, this lens, calculated for the APS-C image circle, unites three classic fixed focal lengths. With angles of view equivalent to focal lengths of 75 to 150 mm (Nikon, Sigma) and 80 to 160 mm (Canon), an 85/1.8, a 105/1.8 and a 135/1.8 are available with a single turn. Not only is the speed outstanding, but the possibilities for isolating the subject and the imaging quality are second to none among zoom lenses, and even the odd fixed focal length will have to take its place at the back of the queue. Internal focusing is carried out by an HSM unit reduced in size by 30 per cent, and the lens does not change its length when zooming either. Nine aperture blades for fine out-of-focus areas and top workmanship likewise make up the Plus X here.
- consistently high speed
- three classic fixed focal lengths in one lens
- top quality of the Art series
